Toyota has pulled the cover off the All-New Toyota Hilux EV Unveiled, confirming the pick-up’s electric credentials and giving customers the first official figures for range, payload and towing. The battery-only Hilux pairs a 59.2 kWh battery with front and rear e-axles, delivering an estimated WLTP driving range of roughly 150 miles and a braked towing capacity of 1,600 kg — figures Toyota lists as pre-homologation targets.

What’s under the skin

The electric Hilux uses dual e-axles for permanent all-wheel drive and a combined output that works out to about 193 hp (144 kW) in published briefings. Toyota’s technical notes show each axle contributes healthy torque figures — cited at roughly 205 Nm front and 269 Nm rear — giving the truck confident off-road ability while keeping driveability familiar to Hilux customers.

Workload: payload and towing

Toyota’s pre-homologation data lists a payload of around 715 kg and the 1,600 kg towing limit, a noticeable step down from some diesel Hilux variants but one Toyota positions as a compromise balancing electric powertrain packaging and capability. The company says final homologated figures may vary by market and specification.

Charging and practicality

Toyota is targeting “best-in-class” charging speeds to reduce downtime, and multiple outlets reporting from the unveiling note fast-charging capability up to manufacturer-quoted figures (Toyota has highlighted rapid-charge targets though full charging maps and exact kW curves are pending homologation). The Hilux keeps the ladder-frame strength, wading depth and multi-terrain systems that made it popular — translated into an electric platform intended for fleet and light-utility customers as well as private buyers.

Market timing and variants

Toyota confirmed the electric Hilux will join the broader ninth-generation Hilux family (which continues to include petrol and diesel options) and is slated for production in Thailand toward the end of 2025, with regional launch timing to follow. Toyota also signalled further electrified tech — including hybrid and hydrogen fuel-cell variants — will expand the line-up in subsequent years.

Bottom line

The All-New Toyota Hilux EV Unveiled marks a bold pivot: an iconic workhorse reimagined as an EV with solid tech credentials, a modest ~150-mile WLTP range and usable towing for light trailers. Final, market-specific specs and prices will be confirmed at homologation and local launches — but Toyota’s official briefing gives a clear first look at where the Hilux goes next.
