Renault Kwid EV Specifications Out: 26.8kWh Battery, 220km Range, India-Bound By 2026

India’s affordable electric vehicle segment is set for a major disruption as French automaker Renault prepares to launch the much-anticipated Renault Kwid EV by 2026. The electric version of India’s popular budget hatchback has been revealed overseas, showcasing impressive specifications that could make it a game-changer in the country’s EV market.

Renault Kwid EV: Key Specifications

The Renault Kwid EV, based on the Dacia Spring platform sold in Europe, comes equipped with a 26.8kWh battery pack that delivers a WLTP-certified range of over 220 kilometers on a single charge. This makes it ideal for daily city commutes and short highway trips, addressing the primary concerns of Indian buyers.

The electric hatchback will be available with two motor options—a 46PS base variant and a more powerful 65PS version, offering flexibility to buyers based on their performance needs. The standard 7kW AC charger can fully juice up the battery in approximately 3.2 hours, while DC fast charging capability enables 10-80% charging in just 45 minutes.

Renault Kwid EV Price and Launch Timeline

Industry sources suggest the Renault Kwid EV could be priced between ₹7 lakh and ₹11 lakh (ex-showroom), positioning it as one of India’s most affordable electric vehicles. This aggressive pricing strategy aims to directly compete with the Tata Tiago EV and MG Comet, potentially triggering a price war in the budget EV segment.

The launch is expected in 2026, with test mules already spotted on Indian roads, indicating that homologation and localization work is underway. Renault is reportedly targeting 55-60% localization to keep costs competitive.

Why Renault Kwid EV Matters

With zero-emission mobility gaining momentum in India and government incentives supporting EV adoption, the Renault Kwid EV arrives at the right time. Its combination of affordable pricing, practical range, and the trusted Kwid nameplate could accelerate the shift toward electric mobility in the budget segment.

As India pushes toward its 2030 EV goals, vehicles like the Renault Kwid EV will play a crucial role in making electric cars accessible to the masses, not just premium buyers.
