Yamaha Motor has officially revealed two electric scooters for the Indian market — the AEROX E and the EC-06 — marking the company’s formal push into battery-powered two-wheelers in India. The move positions Yamaha against established EV players with one performance-focused model and one lifestyle-oriented scooter.
Sporty AEROX E aims at performance buyers
The AEROX E carries the sporty maxi-scooter look of its petrol sibling but comes electrified. Yamaha says the AEROX E uses high-energy battery cells with a dual-battery layout and a motor that produces strong peak power, delivering a certified range of about 106 km on a single charge. The scooter also features multiple riding modes, a TFT instrument cluster and detachable batteries for convenient home charging — specs aimed at buyers seeking performance and daily usability.
EC-06 targets urban commuters with long range
The EC-06 — developed in collaboration with Bengaluru-based EV firm River Mobility — is pitched as a practical, “stylish & cool” urban scooter. Yamaha and partner sources report the EC-06 offers a significantly larger single-charge range (around 160 km on the company’s certified cycle) and will be produced by River for the Indian market. That range figure, if replicated in real world riding, could make the EC-06 an attractive option for riders worried about range anxiety.
When, where and what to expect
India Yamaha Motor’s communication lists both the AEROX E and EC-06 as “coming soon” with deliveries and pricing to be announced closer to launch; industry outlets suggest launch timelines and tentative pricing will be revealed in the next quarter. Yamaha says the launches form part of a broader sustainability drive while expanding its product mix in India.
Bottom line
With the AEROX E, EC-06 and Yamaha’s dealer network behind them, the Japanese marque looks set to challenge incumbents by offering both a premium performance scooter and a practical long-range model. Buyers should watch official Yamaha India channels for confirmed prices, booking details and delivery dates in the coming weeks.
